On November 27 the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine celebrates 95 years since its inception. Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was the oldest of the national academies in the times of the USSR. In its first year of its activity, it consisted of three academic departments: history and philology, physics and mathematics, and social sciences, covering 3 institutes, 15 commissions and the National Library. Now the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine consists of 3 sections, 14 branches, about 170 institutes and other research institutions, where work more than 19,000 scientists.
